Ross Sea

The Ross Sea is a part of the Southern Ocean that lies in Antarctica between Victoria Land and Marie Byrd Land. It was named after the James Ross, who discovered the sea in 1841.

The Ross Sea

Ross Island with the Mt. Erebus volcano lies on the west of the Ross Sea, whereas, Roosevelt Island lies on the east of the Ross Sea. Southern part of the sea is sheltered by the Ross Ice Shelf and Gould Coast is the southern part of the sea. McMurdo Sound is a port that is free of ice during summer lies on the western part.
