Arctic Ocean

Arctic Ocean which border the northern continents and encompasses the far North including the North pole.

The Arctic Ocean is the smallest ocean in the world. The Northwest Passage (US and Canada) and the Northern Sea Route (Norway and Russia) are two important seasonal waterways. A sparse network of air, river, ocean, and land routes circumscribes the Arctic Ocean.

Body of the water between Europe, Asia, and North America, mostly north of the Arctic Circle.

Area Total

14.056 million sq km. This contains Baffin Bay, Barents Sea, Beaufort Sea, Chukchi Sea, East Siberian Sea, Greenland Sea, Hudson Bay, Hudson Strait, Kara Sea, Laptev Sea, Northwest Passage, and other tributary water bodies.

Area - comparative: Slightly less than 1.5 times the size of the US.

Coastline: 45,389 km.

Climate

Tropical cyclones (hurricanes) develop off the coast of Africa near Cape Verde and move westward into the Caribbean Sea; hurricanes can happen from May to December, but are most frequent from August to November.
