Denmark Strait

The Denmark Strait is surrounded by Greenland on the northwest, Iceland on the southeast and Norwegian island of Jan Mayen on the northeast.

It links the Atlantic Ocean to the Greenland Sea which is an extension of the Arctic Ocean. The strait measures 300 miles (480 km) long and 180 miles (290 km) wide at its narrowest and 625 feet (191 meters) is the greatest narrow depth.

The cold East Greenland water passes via the strait and takes icebergs south into the North Atlantic Ocean. Fishing is important in this strait.
