A cargo ship saves 55 travelers off Libya; several passed away

The Italian coast guard said, “A freight ship has rescued at least 55 migrants from Libyan waters after their rubber yacht capsized. Several bodies were covered in the sea and nearly 30 people were missing.”

Coast guard officials said “Later the rubber yacht; they used a satellite telephone to call for help a Singapore-flagged merchant ship rushed to the prospect but the migrants’ boat capsized just before its arrival.”

“The yacht capacity was about hundred passengers only,” said by Coast guard officials based in Rome. Thousands fleeing poverty or war have been arriving weekly in smugglers’ boats on Italian shores or needing salvage at sea.
